Compensation – Salary and Benefits
As a graduate from an American university, your expectations about salary and benefits packages offered may be somewhat different from those of local graduates. While it is true that some companies prefer graduates from American universities to local graduates, basically there are no significant differences in terms of compensation and benefits received between American and local Bachelor's or Master's degree holders.
In general, the following table provides a market estimation of starting salaries for Indonesians with a Bachelor's or Master's degree from an American university.
| Gross Monthly Salary Range (Rupiah) |
| Degree Type |
Fresh graduates |
1–2 years experience |
| Bachelor's Degree |
2,000,000–2,170,000 |
2,390,000–3,200,000 |
| Master's Degree |
2,000,000–2,170,000 |
2,390,000–3,200,000 |
There are some differences across disciplines. For example, those with engineering/finance/business administration backgrounds may receive higher salaries than those with social science backgrounds. Other factors which may increase starting salaries are the industry sector, the type of joint venture/multi-national company, as well as position and location in Indonesia.
