Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements at the time of application to be eligible for participation:
- Employed as a full-time classroom teacher in grades 1-12 with a primary concentration in Social Studies or work full-time as a Library Media Specialist;
- Have a minimum of three years full-time teaching experience;
- Work in the Unites States; and,
- Be a U.S. citizen.
NOTE: Applicants are responsible for obtaining proper permission and approval and meeting any
other requirements of their school districts prior to international travel.
Selection Criteria
Program participants will be selected through a competitive, merit-based process. Members of an IIE-organized,
independent Selection
Committee will review applications and determine relative merit based on the information provided in each application.
Panelists will recommend finalists based on program impact and merit, giving particular consideration to the following
criteria.
- The degree to which participation in the program will have a long-term impact and benefit the
applicant's school and
community;
- The quality, originality and feasibility of the applicant's follow-on plan for applying
elements of
their experience in Saudi Arabia to his/her classroom, school and community activities, and the projected benefits of such
programs
for students, other district teachers and members of the community for years to come;
- Demonstrated commitment and potential to be an innovative and effective educator;
- Overall merit of the application as demonstrated through the applicant's personal statement, impact plan and letters of reference.
- Commitment to implementing a carefully designed impact plan plan and to remaining in the field of education
as a primary or secondary educator in order to share experiences gained through the Program on a long-term basis
(at least 2-3 years) in the classroom, school and community.
