About Us
The Korean Studies Workshop for American Educators is an exciting professional development opportunity for secondary social studies teachers and administrators. In 2009, the Korean Studies Workshop will send up to 60 secondary school educators from the United States to Korea for a 12-day workshop. Sponsored entirely by the Korea Foundation, the workshop is designed to enhance mutual understanding between the people of Korea and the United States by inviting certain U.S. educators to visit Korea and then share their experiences with fellow Americans upon their return.
Workshop Administration
The Korean Studies Workshop is sponsored by the Korea Foundation, an independent organization established in 1991 with the aim of enhancing Korea's image and reputation in the world through the promotion of various academic and cultural exchange programs. The Institute of International Education (IIE) administers workshop activities in the United States. Founded in 1919, IIE is an independent, non-profit organization committed to international education and exchange.
"After returning from the KSW last summer, I not only loved being an educator but was determined to do more. I wanted to do more that would cause the students at my school and surrounding community to embrace education, other cultures and life. I look forward to continually impacting and changing lives now and in the future because of this experience." - Laronda Brown, 2007 KSW participant, Middle school social studies teacher, FL
"The Korean Studies Workshop had a profound affect on both my personal and professional life. The cultural experience led to a deeper understanding of humanity and heightened sense of global/social responsibility." - Brian Williams, 2006 KSW participant, Middle school assistant principal, OH
