People, Energy, and Development (PED)
In February 2004, the Energy Group at IIE began conducting energy training and capacity building activities for the USAID program "People, Energy, and Development" (PED). With PED, IIE continues the tradition of developing innovative solutions to capacity building in emerging energy sectors worldwide.
PED is designed to facilitate more effective and efficient knowledge management in the energy sector. The strategy is to define people-oriented solutions to current challenges in six primary areas.
These include:
-
Environmental and related infrastructure
-
Greater efficiency of energy production, distribution, and use
-
Fostering the commercialization and use of renewable energy technologies
-
Demonstrating appropriate technologies to reduce energy-related environmental degradation and mitigate emissions of greenhouse gases
-
Stakeholder roles and participation
IIE has been conducting energy-training activities supported by USAID since 1981. To learn more about the Energy Group team, visit their website at www.iie.org/energy.
