IIE president Allan Goodman presents testimony on student visas to the House Subcommittee on Research and Science Education
IIE President and CEO Allan Goodman was invited to present testimony to the House Science and Technology Committee's Subcommittee on Research and Science Education hearing on February 7, 2008, regarding the visa process for foreign science and engineering students and scholars. This was the first in a series of hearings on how to strengthen science diplomacy efforts in the United States, in an effort to examine the role that the federal government can and should play in fostering international scientific cooperation and collaboration. The Subcommittee noted that "the U.S. is often admired and respected for its leadership on science and technology. This leading status presents the perfect opportunity for the U.S. to develop and build relationships with other countries through the world of science that will fuel innovation and keep America competitive."
The hearing was featured in "Inside Higher Education". The article quoted Allan Goodman, cited IIE's Open Doors statistics, and highlighted IIE's offer to help train Department of Homeland Security staff on how to work better with international students at the point of entry.
