Joining the Global E3 Consortium

The Global E3 Program is an agreement between two consortia of universities, which cover different geographic areas.

The below page describes membership in the consortium that currently includes (but is not limited to) universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Central & Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia. This consortium is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE), and is collectively known as the "Global E3 Consortium".

Requirements for Membership in the Global E3 Consortium:

  • For U.S. universities: At least one ABET-accredited engineering program
  • For universities outside the U.S.: At least one engineering program accredited by a nationally-recognized accreditation organization
  • Commitment to receive students from abroad
  • Agreement to take part in tuition-swap exchange of students
  • Agreement to pay dues for program administration to IIE, currently $2,500 annually, billed in the summer prior to year of participation

NOTE: ALL universities in continental western Europe are administered by IIE's partner organization, GE4. The consortium is collectively known as the "GE4 Consortium". Requirements and application available through  GE4.

The Global E3 Consortium membership application is available upon request.

A few universities join the Global E3 Consortium each year, and these often fill a specific need in terms of geographic outreach or curriculum offerings.  Once the application is received from a potential member, it is reviewed by the Global E3 Executive Commitee, composed of elected representatives from the consortium membership. If accepted, new members sign a "Memorandum Of Understanding" which describes the duties and obligations of the university and IIE.
