Health Benefit Plan
The United States Department of State provides Accident and Sickness Insurance coverage for all IELSP grantees at no cost to you. Full information can be found at: Accident and Sickness Insurance Brochure (PDF).
Your IELSP Health Benefit Plan
Your health plan begins with your travel to the United States and is valid through your grant end date and during your final trip home via the most direct route upon completion of your participation in IELSP
Access to Health Care
Your health plan includes a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO). A PPO is a network of physicians, hospitals, and clinics that have entered into an agreement with the United States Department of State to accept discounted fees for services they provide to United States Department of State participants. The United States Department of State has contracted with CCN, one of the U.S.'s largest PPO networks, to provide medical care, and has arrangements with the MMP laboratory, Durable Medical Equipment, radiology network and the Up and Up facility network.
Saving Money
Using a PPO provider saves you money because: (i) The United States Department of State pays 100% of your charges (or up to the policy limit); and (ii) In most cases, if a provider is participating in the network, your payment will not be required at the time of service (except for the deductible), as the network bills directly to the insurance administrator. If you do not use a PPO provider in the network, you will be responsible for charges over the usual and customary amount if charged by the provider. That means you will be responsible for payment at the time of service and any balance billings.
How do I locate a provider or facility in the network?
You can search the primary network directly from our Web site at http://www.onlinehealthplan.com. Simply click on the section titled Network Access. There is also a network access telephone number on your ID card (1-800 299-8742) that you can call directly to find a network provider in your area.
