- Educational Testing -

Testing
In testing, IIE functions as the Educational Testing Service's representative for the Republic of Mexico and provides information on the TOEFL and other examinations required for admission to U.S. higher education institutions such as the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).

IIE also makes available to Mexican institutions the Institutional TOEFL Program (ITP) which gives students the opportunity to take an unofficial TOEFL at a lower fee. IIE provides test distribution and scoring services to Mexican institutions, which use the exam for their English evaluation purposes.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - www.toefl.org

The majority of U.S. universities require that students whose native language is not English take the TOEFL. Generally, a score of 550 to 600 (official paper and pencil TOEFL) or 213 - 250 (computer-based) are required for admission to undergraduate and graduate programs in the United States.

The TOEFL exam is administered on computer, Monday through Friday and on the second Saturday of each month at Sylvan Computer-Based Testing Centers located in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey. The Institute of International Education (IIE) is the test administration site for the TOEFL in Mexico City. The exam costs $100 U.S. dollars and is valid for two years.

Students must register directly with Sylvan Learning Systems in the United States by postal mail, fax or telephone.

The official paper and pencil TOEFL will be administered on the following dates and in the following cities in Mexico during the 1999-2000 academic period. Please do not call the test centers to register for the test. Students MUST register directly with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) in the United States via postal mail using the forms contained in the paper and pencil registration bulletin. The cost of the paper-based exam is $75 dollars.

For further information on the paper and pencil or computer-based TOEFL, please consult the appropriate information bulletin. Changes to the bulletin are published in the TOEFL program Website.
