PRESTASI Scholar Teddy Lesmana

Teddy Lesmana is not only a thinker, but also a doer. While working at the Economic Research Center at the Indonesian Institute of Science (Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia/LIPI), he applied for a USAID funded PRESTASI scholarship, which allowed him to travel to the United States to earn his Master’s Degree. Teddy completed his degree in Biodiversity at the University of Maryland in 2011 and since returning to Indonesia last year, he has been able to implement his newly gained knowledge in areas such as climate change, food security, payment for ecosystem services, and has integrated economic and environmental interests into his research.

After competing his Master’s Degree, Teddy returned to the Economic Research Center at the Indonesian Institute of Science, where he has worked on a number of development related projects in Indonesia, including helping to equip rural communities in Lombok Utara, East Nusa Tenggara with micro-hydro power, which has provided the residents with electricity for the first time in decades and has helped reduce carbon emissions in the region. Teddy has also published several articles on environmental issues in Indonesia frequently appears on Indonesian national television to comment on issues surrounding the environment, economy and oil and gas conversion.
