Purpose of Position:

IIE’s Office for Latin America is seeking candidates for a Program Officer working as part of our Programs Team. This position will be actively involved in implementing and executing the Seattle Fellows Leadership Program (SIF) as well as serving as the lead for various smaller programs such as the Summit Foundation-Scholarships for Future Leaders of Central America. In coordination with Mexico- and US-based leadership, the Program Officer develops and implements programs, inclusive of outreach, application management, selection, interviews and orientation, grantee monitoring, program workshops, and overall program evaluation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Corresponds with sponsor, prospective applicants, candidates, and grantees.
  • Develops and implements SIF outreach and communications strategy.
  • Develops and administers program application process; offers online advising sessions to prospects, conducts interviews of semi-finalists and bundles application materials to be sent to selection panel
  • Reviews applications for technical accuracy; recruits selection panelists, planning, and facilitates selection panel meetings. Actively participates on the selection panel.
  • Manages notification to candidates of selection decisions and the candidate grant acceptance process. Delivers pre-departure orientation webinars for all finalists.
  • Represents IIE externally to promote program with education decision makers and other stakeholders.
  • Communicates program policies and assists grantees with achieving and maintaining compliance with program requirements. Monitors a 50 person caseload for intensive monitoring throughout the program.
  • Supports resolution of grantee emergency situations.
  • Designs workshop content, identifies subject matter experts to facilitate and manages logistics for program orientations, workshops, and other events for groups of more than 100 participants
  • Monitors online tools designed for grantee interaction and produces content to promote engaged online networking
  • Satisfies all reporting requirements.
  • Reviews and processes payments to vendors and outside services against budget and notifies management of variance. Maintains accurate payment records.
  • Develops and implements program evaluation tools; compiles results and makes recommendations to IIE management and sponsor.
  • Responsible for complying with applicable contract and sponsor requirements and following all IIE policies and procedures.
  • General Programs
  • Conducts desk and online research required for written reports presented to program sponsors.
  • Available for travel and in person visits for on the ground research, outreach and marketing of IIE programs.
  • Primary contact for university representatives, stakeholders, scholarship funding corporations and scholarship grantees.
  • Assists with the development of proposals and new programs.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in relevant field preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible experience in the international education field, scholarship management, sponsored leadership development programs, events coordination, or similar capacity required.
  • Experience managing a budget required.
  • Experience developing curricula for professional development preferred.
  • Experience in university placement services preferred.
  • Experience working and/or studying internationally highly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in projects and tasks involving complex details which require well-developed organizational, time-management and administrative skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Knowledge of the cultural, economic and education context in US, Central and South America.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English required.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff and external contacts; sensitive to cultural differences when working with people from other cultures, and ability to exercise discretion on confidential matters.
  • Basic understanding of finance and accounting policies, procedures and administrative practices.
  • Ability to compare and evaluate possible courses of action and recommend or decide appropriate course of action.
  • Familiarity with web design and web-based knowledge sharing platforms and social media networks.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Willingness and ability to travel (up to 25%).

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
