Beth came to IIE in 2012 with a passion for—and background in—international development. Prior to this, she worked as a fundraiser for Global Exchange, a San Francisco-based human rights advocacy organization. She arrived in the Bay Area in 2009 on the heels of seven years in Washington, DC working with various U.S. government-funded NGOs, including the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), and International Relief and Development (IRD). She has traveled extensively across Africa and Southeast Asia, lived and worked in South Sudan with Mercy Corps for over a year, and completed a long-term field assignment in Aceh, Indonesia after the December 2004 tsunami. She earned a dual Master’s degree (MA/MPH) in International Development Studies and Global Health at the George Washington University and conducted her master’s thesis in rural Tanzania. Beth’s inspiration to make the world a better place has been deepened by her first child, Amaya Ann, born in May 2012.
