On behalf of the Government of Brazil the Institute of International Education (IIE) is pleased to invite your participation as a host institution in the Science without Borders Undergraduate Scholarship Program.
The undergraduate program is part of the Brazilian government's larger initiative to grant 100,000 scholarships for the best students to study abroad at the world's best universities.
The program is designed to offer students from Brazil an opportunity to pursue study in mostly STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) for up to 12 months at colleges and universities in the United States. Students will return to complete their degrees in Brazil. This is a one year non-degree program. Students will begin their program in either the Spring semester of 2012 or Fall semester of 2012. It is hoped they will also engage in a summer internship.
The requirements of a host institution are that they:
- Offer strong coursework relevant to (mostly) STEM fields
- Are welcoming to international students by offering excellent support services, appropriate housing, meal plan, and assistance in securing internship
IIE administers the Brazil Science Without Borders Program on behalf of CAPES and CNPq.
CAPES: Students who apply through CAPES are placed at U.S. institutions by IIE. Institutions would be expected to accept documentation through IIE including the Common Application, TOEFL score reports, transcripts, etc. IIE will work closely with the institution during admission to confirm placement.
CNPq: Students who apply through CNPq will seek direct placement at institutions. IIE will work with the instituion after the student has accepted the offer of placement.
After official placements are made for students applying through both CAPES and CNPq, IIE will make arrangements to pay the students' tuition, room, board and health insurance upon receipt of an invoice from each host school. IIE will also provide J-1 visa sponsorship in the student non-degree category under our exchange visitor program. Round trip transportation to/from Brazil, a monthly stipend and book allowance will be provided to each student directly from the Brazilian government.
If your institution is interested in hosting students in the Brazil Science without Borders Program please complete and submit the Participation Form by clicking on the link below.
Completing the form enables IIE to identify appropriate schools interested in hosting candidates for the Brazil Science Without Borders Program. Completing the participation form does not obligate an institution to participate or accept the candidates IIE presents for admission. The final decision on whether a particular student is a good fit and admissible for a particular institution as a visiting non-degree student is up to that host school.
Applications for hosting students in this Program are accepted on a rolling basis.
You can complete the participation form at: Host Institution Application
