The Richard A. Horovitz Fund for Professional Development was established in memory of Richard Horovitz, a Ford Foundation program officer who died in 1991. One of his last acts was to write a check to start the scholarship fund. This was augmented by contributions from friends and associates, and by a $300,000 contribution from his father, James Horovitz, in 1994. Income from this contribution provides support for awards to the grantees and IIE’s administrative costs. The governing body of the program is a steering committee headed by a Horovitz family member.
