Grant Title: Can “Bureaucratic” Control of Local Politicians Reduce Corruption and Capture?

IREEP will support a local government monitoring mechanism in Benin that provides Ministry of Decentralization local staff a means through which to encourage public oversight of local government corruption. IREEP will study whether and how this mechanism reduces political corruption or affects citizen attitudes about corruption and perceptions of government performance.
