About the Program

Women's Leadership: The Next Hundred Years is a special initiative of the prestigious International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State.

This initiative, running March 7 – 25, 2011, celebrates the historic accomplishment of women and looks ahead to the next century. It provides opportunities for the participants to network and share insights with their U.S. counterparts and with each other.

The program brings 100 women leaders from around the world to explore women’s political, economic, and civic leadership.

Participants represent government, civil society, business, media, and academia and hail from Africa, East Asia, Europe and Eurasia, the Near East and North Africa, South and Central Asia, and the Western Hemisphere.

Signature Events Include:

  • International Women's Day Centennial Plenary.
  • Meetings with UN Women - the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women; and with the White House Project, which advances women's leadership.
  • Travel to cities across the U.S. to explore efforts to advance women's leadership at the regional, state, and grassroots levels.
  • Customized leadership seminars.
  • Establishment of a legacy project for global collaboration.
