Vienna Workshop

The Institute of International Education (IIE) was pleased to conduct the Young Leaders Dialogue Vienna Workshop in Vienna, Austria from June 16 – 19, 2011 in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy Vienna and the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.  The goal of the Vienna Workshop was to support, sustain, and build upon positive outcomes of the Young Leaders Dialogue with America program (February 2010) and the Young Leaders Dialogue Conference in Prague (November 2010).

The participants for the Workshop included the team members whose group project proposals were selected by the U.S. Department of State for funding following the Young Leaders Dialogue Conference in Prague.

The YLD Vienna Workshop increased the capacity for success of the participants and their collaborative group projects.  The Workshop design enabled the participants to:

  • Discuss the implications of their projects for transatlantic cooperation in one or more of the program themes:  transatlantic security, climate change and environmental issues, and tolerance and diversity;
  • Receive feedback from peers and expert trainers on the design and mechanics of their group projects;
  • Increase knowledge of program management skills through results-based training;
  • Develop team cohesion and effectiveness;
  • Promote strong transatlantic leadership through collaboration and partnerships based on mutual respect and understanding.

Workshop participants were asked to report on the status of project implementation, with a special emphasis on issues encountered and potential or realized resolutions, as well as their plans for the remaining project period.  The Workshop allowed the participants to receive feedback from their transatlantic peers in both large and small settings.  In addition, the participants had meetings with expert trainers who provided tailored feedback, including tools and suggestions for successful implementation of the group projects.
