Japan Intercultural Academy of Municipalities (JIAM) U.S. Study Tour |
| The Japan Intercultural Academy of Municipalities (JIAM), a training institute near Kyoto, Japan, seeks to develop the professional management skills of Japanese government employees to effectively respond to issues of globalization. Two of JIAM’s courses designed for civil servants to explore international and public policy issues involve a U.S. Study Tour, which takes place at the end of October. IIE works with JIAM to design and facilitate these study tours, which allow trainees to visit the U.S. and participate in a range of professional activities. For approximately two weeks, participants take part in lectures and site visits to government offices and non-governmental organizations on various public policy issues. In addition, cultural exchange and mutual understanding is fostered between Japan and the U.S. through host family dinners or weekends, where Japanese participants and U.S. citizens have an opportunity to learn about the other’s culture and family life. |
