Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA) |
Financial Aid |
For FLTAs not granted Fulbright status, host institutions offer awards that include tuition waivers, room, board and a stipend which ranges from $400 to $600 per month. Institutions may arrange long-term homestays in lieu of room and board. In some cases health insurance coverage and a travel grant are included. These terms also apply to Fulbright FLTAs teaching Romance languages.
Fulbright FLTAs teaching strategic languages receive significant financial support from the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. This support is sufficient to cover living expenses at their host institution and includes paid roundtrip transportation to their program site as well as health insurance coverage.
Because Teaching Assistants are required to take at least two academic courses per semester to fulfill J-1 visa regulations, colleges and universities usually waive tuition and fees for study.
Secondary schools may make arrangements with nearby colleges or universities for TAs to enroll in academic courses. |
