I am an undergraduate student from Bangladesh/Burma (Myanmar)/Indonesia/ Kenya/Malaysia/Maldives/Seychelles/Somalia/Tanzania/Thailand. Am I eligible for a Lumina Foundation-EAS award?
Lumina Foundation-EAS awards are primarily reserved for students from Sri Lanka and India’s southeastern coast. Applicants from other countries in South Asia will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Students from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand directly affected by the tsunami may be eligible for a Freeman-EAS award. Advisors my contact the Freeman-EAS program at FreemanEAS@iie.org for more information about assistance for students from Southeast Asia.
IIE is seeking funding from other sources to support students from other countries but is not able at this time to accept or consider any applications/nominations from other countries.
I am a graduate student. Am I eligible for a Lumina Foundation-EAS award?
Graduate students are not eligible for Lumina Foundation-EAS awards.
I am from South Asia, but I am currently a US permanent resident/US green card holder. Am I eligible for a Lumina Foundation-EAS award?
US permanent residents and US green card holders are not eligible for a Lumina Foundation-EAS award. The Lumina Foundation-EAS program is for South Asian students studying in the U.S. on a non-immigrant temporary student visa.
I am a student in the US from South Asia. How do I obtain a Lumina Foundation-EAS application?
IIE will not send Lumina Foundation-EAS applications directly to students and will not accept applications submitted directly by students. Students must be nominated for this program by their International Student Advisor or similar campus official. International Student Advisors may contact the Lumina Foundation-EAS program by email at LuminaEAS@iie.org to request an application, and should submit completed forms to IIE by email AND fax (202-326-7642) for consideration. If you are a student who is eligible for a Lumina Foundation-EAS award, please speak with your International Student Advisor to discuss your eligibility for this program.
Is my school required to contribute funds to match the Lumina Foundation-EAS award?
Your school must contribute some amount to your total expenses for Fall 2005, but your school is not required to match the exact amount of the Lumina Foundation-EAS award. School contributions may be in the form of a scholarship, stipend, loan, work study, etc.
What is the deadline for IIE to receive applications for Lumina Foundation-EAS awards?
Applications should be submitted by email to IIE at LuminaEAS@iie.org AND by fax at 202-326-7642 September 15, 2005 to be considered in the first round of funding.
