Freeman-EAS: Hurricane Katrina
Emergency Assistance for Students from East and Southeast Asia

Freeman-EAS: Hurricane Katrina, generously sponsored by the Freeman Foundation, through repaid loans from ASIA-HELP awardees, assists undergraduate and graduate students from East and Southeast Asia in the US who have been directly affected by Hurricane Katrina. Freeman-EAS: Hurricane Katrina will provide emergency funds to help students replace items lost in the hurricane such as books, educational equipment and necessity items or with relocation expenses to a new campus. Awards of up to $2,000 are available to students from Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste or Vietnam.

Funding for international students from other world regions is now available. IIE has expanded Lumina Foundation-EAS (with support from the Lumina Foundation for Education) to help Indian and Sri Lankan students in the US who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina. We have also raised private funds to support urgent cases from other world regions, who would also be nominated by their host campuses. The deadline for nominations is October 7, 2005. For more information, please contact: KatrinaEAS@iie.org.

Applications for Freeman-EAS: Hurricane Katrina assistance must come from an International Student Adviser on the U.S. campus where the student is enrolled or planning to enroll in the Fall 2005 semester. If you are an International Student Adviser and would like to request a nomination form, please email KatrinaEAS@iie.org. Students cannot apply directly. They must apply through their Adviser.
