Women in Technology (WIT) empowers women and expands their participation in the workforce and civil society. Local partner organizations, and the women they serve, acquire cutting-edge training in business planning, professional development and information technology. The program for the Middle East and North Africa is sponsored by the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) of the US Department of State and implemented by IIE West Coast Center. Since its launch in 2005, WIT has trained over 4000 women and built the capacity of more than 50 local women’s organizations in the Middle East. WIT is currently working in nine countries: Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Yemen.
WIT will hold its Global Team Meeting from August 15-24, 2008, in San Francisco. WIT Program Managers from each of the nine countries will be hosted by IIE West Coast Center during their ten-day stay. The program includes meetings and trainings focused on program administration and evaluation, and workshops focused on strengthening the Program Managers’ leadership, supervisory, communication and project management skills. Blogging will be introduced to the team through training at Google headquarters as an exciting new WIT component. The nine woman team along with the IIE West Coast Center WIT staff will be visiting local organizations such as Kiva and WISE and technology companies Google & Hewlett-Packard. They will also participate in several panels and speaking engagements to which members of the Bay Area community have been invited.
