Learn more about IVLP

IVLP participant Joshua Magawa Wamboga, a community leader from Uganda, lost two sisters to HIV/AIDS and knows well the importance of health education and prevention. This past year through IVLP, Joshua met with a number of dynamic research and community organizations in California and shared best practices for HIV and AIDS research and advocacy. His professional interactions in the U.S. made a large impact: After meeting with Joshua, the head of an Oakland, CA-based AIDS foundation announced plans to replicate some of Joshua’s best practices in his foundation.

Joshua is currently the Deputy Director of Advocacy and Networking at the AIDS Support Organization (TASO) in Kampala, Uganda and is pursuing Masters in Organizational Management and Leadership at Uganda Christian University.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and administered by IIE, the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) brings participants from all over the world to the United States to meet their professional counterparts.
