There is an urgent need for more American students of all backgrounds to gain the international experience that will prepare them to succeed in global careers. In early 2014, IIE launched Generation Study Abroad, a five-year initiative to double the number of Americans who study abroad by 2019, IIE’s Centennial year.
“International experience is one of the most important components of a 21st century resume.”
– Dr. Allan E. Goodman, President and CEO, IIE
Study Abroad Fund
A component of Generation Study Abroad, the IIE Study Abroad Fund provides funding for U.S. students to study abroad. The Fund also recognizes U.S. universities and institutions that are making outstanding progress achieving their study abroad targets and provides them with incentive grants to help their students pursue educational opportunities abroad. With your help, future generations of Americans will be ready to succeed in the global economy.
Generation Study Abroad
Over the next five years, Generation Study Abroad will reach out to educators at all levels and stakeholders in the public and private sectors. Our aim is to encourage meaningful, innovative action to drive up the number of U.S. students who have the opportunity to gain international experience through academic study abroad programs, as well as internships, service learning and non-credit educational experiences. Putting IIE’s resources behind this campaign highlights the commitment to increasing study abroad that has been so much a part of the Institute’s mission for our first 95 years.
To date, more than 300 partners have joined and committed to take specific, measurable actions to expand study abroad opportunities for American students by the end of the decade.
