Welcome to the IIE West Coast Center
In 1952, the IIE West Coast Center was established in San Francisco, California to provide academic advising and support services for a small group of Fulbright scholarship recipients attending universities in the Northwest region of the United States. Since then, the West Coast Center has grown to design and manage a wide range of scholarship, training, and capacity building programs for foundations, corporations, the U.S. government, and foreign ministries around the world.
Technology opens borders. Educational and professional exchange opens minds.
As the San Francisco Bay Area has become a global leader in innovation, technology and entrepreneurship, the IIE West Coast Center has developed programs designed to draw upon the expertise of the local community. Some programs connect social media experts and Silicon Valley businesses with local NGOs and technical women in the Middle East and North Africa. Other programs connect international scholars and emerging leaders to the local community through professional exchanges, school visits, and community service events. Through our diverse programs, the IIE West Coast Center remains a leading resource for increasing the capacity of people to think and work on a global and intercultural basis.
Center for Women’s Leadership Initiatives
The IIE West Coast Center houses one of four global IIE Centers of Excellence – the Center for Women’s Leadership Initiatives. With significant expertise, capabilities and best practices on which to draw, the Center for Women’s Leadership Initiatives (WLI) develops and manages dynamic, innovative and substantive programming to cultivate and support women as leaders of change around the world.
The Institute of International Education is an independent, non-profit organization, serving as a leading resource for students, professionals, and institutions worldwide. The Institute partners with governments, international development agencies, foundations, universities and corporations, leveraging its international networks to collaborate on sustainable solutions for long-term development. We believe that peace and prosperity in the 21st century depend on increasing the capacity of people to think and work on a global and intercultural basis. As technology opens borders, educational and professional exchanges open minds.
Our goals are:
- Building and connecting networks of global citizens;
- Leveraging innovative partnerships to address global needs;
- Investing in emerging and established leaders;
- Expanding access to education and professional training.
