IIE's Center for Women’s Leadership Initiatives Launches New Program for Women Entrepreneurs in Tunisia
The Institute of International Education (IIE) Center for Women’s Leadership Initiatives is partnering with eight women-led organizations in Tunisia to deliver leadership, social media, e-commerce and entrepreneurship training to emerging and established women entrepreneurs throughout the country. The new program, Women’s Enterprise for Sustainability (WES), is funded by the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) of the U.S. Department of State.

New Partnership with Ann Arbor Public Schools
IIE and Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. Inc. are excited to announce a new partnership with the Ann Arbor Public Schools (AAPS) which will give secondary teachers and administrators at AAPS access to global educational leaders in Singapore, the country currently at the forefront of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) initiatives.

Women Impacting Climate Change
IIE San Francisco, through its Center for Women’s Leadership Initiatives, was very pleased to host a panel discussion focusing on Women Impacting Climate Change on Monday, June 25th. Nineteen International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) participants from eighteen different countries attended the event, sharing experiences of their work on climate change from the grassroots to the government level.

IIE San Francisco Team Members Receive the International Learning Opportunity Award
Each year, the Institute of International Education offers competitive internal scholarships for IIE staff to attend a conference, workshop, or seminar abroad. As a global leader in the exchange of people and ideas, IIE established the International Learning Opportunity Award (ILOA) to provide these opportunities for its staff. This year, two IIE San Francisco team members received the ILOA and will attend conferences in Brazil and Indonesia.

IIE West Coast Center Fulbright Services Team is gearing up for its annual Fulbright Enrichment Seminar, a three-day event sponsored and hosted by the U. S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) benefitting over 140 first-year Fulbright foreign students from over 60 countries.

Stories of Leadership Fellows: Aminu Gamawa
LDM Fellow, Aminu Gamawa, is focusing his efforts primarily in three northern Nigerian states, partnering with progressive Islamic leaders to help save the lives of women and give future generations a healthy start. In 2005, Aminu’s mother died giving birth to her 10th child. Her death was preventable had adequate maternal healthcare been available.

Doha, November 2, 2011—At the 3rd World Innovation Summit on Education in Doha today, the Institute of International Education announced the launch of the IIE Center for Women’s Leadership Initiatives. The Center will build on IIE’s existing work promoting gender equity, scaling up to provide more opportunities for women worldwide to pursue higher education, participate in cutting-edge training, mentorships and professional development and exchange programs.
