Scientific Mobility Program Grantees who score below 79 iBT (547 pBT) may be funded by CAPES to participate in intensive English language programming prior to beginning their academic programs. Pre-academic pro¬grams provide the opportunity to focus solely on intensive English. These programs also provide valuable training and orientation that will help to ensure your academic success. They may also include field-of-study information or orientation to academics the United States.
Since your ability to understand, speak, read, and write English is important to your aca¬demic success, IIE offers a wide range of English language training opportunities. Intensive English programs (IEPs) in the United States vary in length. Summer sessions begin in May, June and July and fall sessions begin in August and September. These courses offer targeted language instruction at several levels as well as cultural and social activities. They also provide a valuable opportunity to acclimate to the US before the academic year begins. Students may choose to continue their English language training by taking English language courses during the academic year.
On behalf of CAPES, IIE will cover tuition, room, board, and insurance for eligible students during the pre-academic program. BSMP pre-academic grantees will be provided a reasonable stipend to cover other expenses directly from the government of Brazil.
