Scientific Mobility Program Grantees who score between 61-78iBT and 500-547 pBT are funded by CAPES to participate in a minimum of 6 weeks of intensive English programming prior to beginning their academic programs. These programs provide valuable training and orientation that will help to ensure your academic success. Pre-academic programs provide the opportunity to focus solely on intensive English. They may also include field-of-study information or orientation to academics the United States.
Since your ability to understand, speak, read, and write English is important to your academic success, IIE offers a wide range of English language training opportunities. Intensive English programs (IEPs) in the United States vary in length and begin in May, June and July. They offer targeted language instruction at several levels as well as cultural and social activities. They also provide a valuable opportunity to acclimate to the US before the academic year begins. Students may choose to continue their English language training by taking English language courses during the academic year.
On behalf of CAPES, IIE will cover tuition, room, board, and insurance for eligible students during the pre-academic program. BSMP pre-academic grantees will be provided a reasonable stipend to cover other expenses directly from the government of Brazil.
In addition to the normal application process, students approved for Intensive English must provide:
- An unofficial copy of your TOEFL scores
- The biographical data page of your passport
- The last date of your academic semester in Brazil
