We encourage the participation of higher education institutions and organizations outside the U.S. in Generation Study Abroad. Through international academic partnerships, research collaborations, teaching exchanges, and other exchange activities, international institutions play a critical role in creating opportunities for U.S. students and ultimately shaping the study abroad experience for American students.

Non U.S. institutions who have joined have pledged to increase the number of US students to their home campus through expanding partnerships with U.S. institutions, as well as reductions in tuition, housing costs, among others. University of Tsukuba: Commits to improving and expanding English taught fields of study in areas relevant to US students and expanding student support services aimed at meeting US students' diverse needs.
Universidad de Guadalajara: Pledges to build upon existing exchange programs to also offer language and internship programs for US students, specifically Spanish as a second language summer programs and an international teaching program internship.
Osaka University: Will increase U.S. students at Osaka by incorporating specialized courses for U.S. students specifically taught in English, altering the Japanese academic calendar to be more U.S. friendly, and standardizing lecture numbering and GPA evaluations.
Universidad de los Andes, Chile: Aims to double the number of regular courses taught in English by the end of the decade and also double the number of summer and winter program options available to U.S. students.
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia: Pledges to explore the following activities with new and existing international partners: joint conference sessions, joint research and publications, faculty and student exchange, research collaboration, and the implementation of summer programs and short courses for U.S. students.
Queen Mary University of London: Will travel more frequently to the U.S. to attract more U.S. students, produce literature and guidance specific to U.S. students, and provide staff specialized in advising U.S. students.
Trinity College Dublin: Recognizing the financial and academic constraints preventing U.S. students from spending a full semester or year abroad, they will develop short term programming, including j-term and summer program opportunities.
International Partners that join the commitment agree to:
- Make a significant pledge to increase the number of exchange or non-degree seeking U.S. students hosted;
- Take actions to undertake new and expanded activities to attract more U.S. students to study abroad, such as by offering scholarships, expanding partnerships and increasing marketing efforts;
- Update IIE on an annual basis on their activities and progress towards meeting target goals;
- Share strategies and best practices, which will be featured at IIE's annual Best Practices Conference;
- Put a Generation Study Abroad badge on their websites;
- Join the conversation at #GenerationStudyAbroad.
IIE will support commitment members in the following ways:
- Recognize commitment members on IIE's website and press releases, and provide a special badge;
- Invite members to participate in annual meetings on doubling U.S. study abroad, webinars and special events;
- Connect members with study abroad resources and tools;
- Provide a free eBook license for IIE's new "A Student Guide to Study Abroad";
- Invite all members to participate in the Generation Study Abroad Summit from October 1-2, 2015 in Washington, DC.
