Juniors Mai Kia Thao and Yana Lenta, and senior Miriam Navamanie are Northwestern’s first recipients of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, a $3,000 grant allowing them to join 16 other students on Wednesday for a two-month internship tour of Southeast Asia.

15 Students Awarded Gilman Scholarships for Study Abroad

Fifteen students are studying abroad this fall with Gilman Scholarships in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America. These results place UMass Amherst fourth in the U.S. behind the University of California, Berkeley, San Francisco State and University of California, Santa Barbara.

Zoology Student Awarded Prestigious Gilman Scholarship for Study Abroad in Tanzania

Observing baboons in their West African habitat, participating in game drives in the Serengeti National Park and abiding by a 6 p.m.-6 a.m. curfew due to hyena sightings were all in a summer's work for Western Illinois University student Kelsey Coltrane-Reeb. The senior zoology major from Woodstock (IL) spent part of her time away from Western this summer learning at a study abroad program camp in Tanzania, Africa.

Tips for Financing Study Abroad

Spending a semester in Paris, London or Milan provides learning adventures and experience living in a different culture, but studying abroad comes at a hefty cost and often delays graduating on time if not planned carefully. A fall 2011 online survey conducted by the Institute of International Education in cooperation with the Forum on Education Abroad showed that more than 53% of responding campuses said they had seen an increase in the number of students studying abroad in the 2010-2011 school year compared to the previous year.

Gilman Scholarship Gives CSU Dominguez Hills Students Chance to Study Abroad

This year, Kristina (Kris) Hale and Carlos Giron are expanding their world view, literally. The juniors from California State University, Dominguez Hills have been named 2012-13 recipients of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, a competitive grant program through the U.S. State Department that aims to make it financially easier for undergraduates to afford the opportunity to study abroad either for a summer, semester, or year.

Miners Earn Opportunity for International Study

An inherent interest in how things work and a willingness to seek out academic opportunities has earned a UTEP student a ticket to study engineering and culture in a foreign land during the fall 2012 semester. Jesus Trillo, a sophomore mechanical engineering major, was one of three students from The University of Texas at El Paso selected by the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program to study abroad. The others are Paola Lujan, a junior double majoring in philosophy and British and American literature; and Dafne Elizondo, a junior communication major.

Gilman Scholars Will Travel to Italy, Japan, China, England and Argentina This Fall 2012

Five UTSA students are among the fall 2012 scholarship awardees of the nationally competitive Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship program. "We're thrilled that our students will be able to study abroad this fall with the help of the Gilman program," said Kim Diehl de Yanes, director of Education Abroad Services in the UTSA Office of International Programs. "These students understand the value of gaining experience studying in a foreign country, and they worked hard to make it happen."

Four Claflin University Students Selected for Gilman Scholarships to Study Abroad

A quartet of Claflin University students will literally be going places this summer because they were selected as Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship recipients. Krystal Bowser, Audriana Whiteside, Elisha Owens and Dania Childress all received Gilman Scholarships ranging from $3,500 to $4,500 to study abroad this year.
