Jeffrey Wood, a Gilman and Boren scholar for the 2013-2014 academic year, interviewed First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, while in China. Wood participated in Discovery Education's "Of the People: Live from the White House" online broadcast.

Gilman Scholarship Partners with JAY Z's Shawn Carter Foundation

The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and JAY Z's Shawn Carter Foundation announce a partnership to support study abroad scholarships for U.S. undergraduate citizens with financial need. Four inaugural Shawn Carter Foundation-Gilman International Scholarships have been awarded for the spring 2013 semester.

The Gilman Scholarship Program recently celebrated ten years of helping 10,000 undergraduate students from all 50 U.S. states to study abroad.
