Teach Abroad Grant
The participating countries for the Teach Abroad Grant were developed by IIE and Hilton Worldwide. Teachers who applied to this option of the Hilton Teacher Treks Program had to be willing to go abroad to a country designated by Hilton Worldwide. The priority of the program was to place teachers on this track in a country where their skills were most needed, so we encouraged teachers to be flexible if offered an assignment.
At the time of application, teachers were asked to list up to three countries that would fit well with their background (language and previous international experiences) to teach abroad as part of this program. Final country assignments were made at the time of the award, if selected.
Teachers applied to the program in any of the countries where Hilton Worldwide properties are located, including all affiliate brands: Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts, Conrad Hotels and Resorts, Hilton Hotels and Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton, Embassy Suites Hotels, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, Homewood Suites by Hilton, Home 2 Suites of Hilton and Hilton Grand Vacation properties.
Travel Grant awardees were connected with a Hilton Worldwide Cultural Ambassador before their Trek to learn more about the local culture before arriving in the host country. The Travel Grant awardee were required to stay at the Hilton Worldwide property for at least 1 night in order to take part in a day-long cultural excursion with the Hilton Worldwide Cultural Ambassador together in the host country. The remaining portion of the teacher's time abroad was of his/her design.
At the time of application, teachers were asked to list their top three countries of preference.
