Living closer to the land and sea, Indigenous peoples are hit hard by dramatic changes in climate.

New alliances of Indigenous Peoples and local communities through traditional knowledge are amplified and celebrated.

The first person voices, experiences and insight of Indigenous Peoples and local communities, particularly those of youth and women are shared.

What is the Indigenous Biocultural Exchange Fund?

The Indigenous Biocultural Exchange Fund provides financial assistance to an individual or organization to attend global biocultural events/exchanges or meetings of international significance which impacts the applicant’s home territory or region. This fund supports indigenous peoples and local communities to have a voice in the policies and forums that concern biocultural diversity at a global level.

Note: Individuals or organizations must apply for funding for a specific meeting or event.

Who are our past participants?

Past participants are mainly from the following areas: African Rift Valley (focus Ethiopia and Northern Kenya), Central Asia and Turkey, Northern Australia, Melanesia, and the Southwest U.S. and Northern Mexico.

Applications are being accepted for meetings/exchanges during the October 2013 – January 2014 period.

Decisions on applications submitted will be made in August 2013.

The deadline to apply is July 1, 2013.
