Candidates who are interested in applying must:

  • be in their last year, or be recent graduates of secondary school. Students currently enrolled in a university in their home country are eligible to apply for the program if they have not completed more than two years of study.
  • have superior academic abilities and be well-rounded.
  • have transcripts showing a consistently high level of performance and varied coursework. 
  • be proficient in English.  
  • take the TOEFL and SAT exams.
  • provide complete and accurate proof of funding to supplement awards received. 

Please note: 

  • Candidates with U.S. or dual citizenship of the United States and another country are NOT eligible for this program.  
  • Candidates already accepted to, or enrolled in, a university in the U.S. are NOT eligible to apply to this program. 

Instructions for completing the Common Application for Study America

Please download and have a PDF of the instructions below available during registration and submission of the Common Application for the Institute of International Education (IIE).

You should only complete the common application and send a confirmation e-mail to IIE. You should not submit the common application. Once submitted, no changes can be made to the application.  IIE will review your application and contact you if any additional information is required, prior to submission. 

Once each section has been fully completed, a green check mark will appear next to the section heading. You can stop working and save at any point during the process, and you will be able to return to your application. You do not need to fully complete a section in order to move forward. 

Common Application Instructions


It is crucial that applications be carefully completed and fully documented. Incomplete applications will jeopardize the applicant's admission.

Please make sure that you have requested your SAT and TOEFL score reports to be sent directly to IIE from College Board and ETS respectively.

IIE's institutional code for College Board is 2326 and for ETS is 3828. The department name is D614 AEL. 

Applicants MUST read all instructions carefully before completing the application.

Please DO NOT SUBMIT the Common Application. Once submitted, no changes can be made.
