MDC/Airlangga Marine Sciences Study Abroad Program
Dr. Franklyn Te, Senior Associate Professor, Department of Natural Sciences, Health and Wellness at Miami Dade College will continue MDC's collaboration with Airlangga University through a Marine Sciences Study Abroad Program to Surabaya. MDC will be working with Unair's Fisheries and Marine Sciences Faculty with the lp of the International Office of Partnerships. The program will include at least 10 students and 2 faculty members, and is tentatively scheduled for late June - July, 2013.
Democratic Society and Religious Pluralism
As part of the original USIPP grant, Lehigh University, in conjunction with The University of Michigan and Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia, developed the intercultural study abroad experience, Democratic Society and Religious Pluralism in 2010. The program takes distinctive approach that melds international travel with a collaborative, hands-on curriculum focusing on democracy and religious pluralism. American and Indonesian students live and travel together as a cohort, creating a special learning opportunity that complements the academic curriculum designed for deeper dialogue and understanding.
For the first two years, there were three universities involved with eight student participants. Currently, five universities participate in the program: Lehigh University, the University of Michigan, Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Gadjah Mada and Universitas Airlangga. There are currently twelve student participants in total.
Lehigh and the University of Michigan have received a three-year, $190,000 grant from the Henry Luce Foundation to support the future of this exchange. In 2014, Goucher College, in Baltimore, Maryland, will join the program. In 2015, the summer program will expand to include four universities from each country; increasing student enrollment to 16.This will expand student mobility between the two countries and augment understanding across cultures.

Indonesia Field Study Program
Three students will participate in the next Indonesia Field Study Program through the University of Washington's
Center for Global Field Study. This program will be co-implemented again with Bogor Agricultural University.

ASAIHL Conference in Surabaya
Gregory Galford (Chatham University), returned to Indonesia in May 2013 to participate in Airlangga University's 2013 Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL) Conference in Surabaya. His presentation, USIPP Indonesia: How to Build and Sustain International Academic Partnerships, focused on his experience developing and executing the USIPP-funded Art, Design, and Architecture of Indonesia program with Miami Dade College, Airlangga University, and the Indonesian Institute of the Arts - Yogyakarta.
As part of his trip, he met with faculty members at ISI in Yogyakarta and Udayana University in Denpasar to discuss potential research and met with faculty at Universitas Airlangga and other schools in the Surabaya area as well. Signed MoUs were exchanged and the next step is to define research goals and timelines more fully. Professpr Galford hopes to return with U.S. students in 2014 and begin faculty exchanges and visits by Indonesian students as well.
Hosting Fulbright Scholars on Campus
The University of Washington was selected to host fourteen Indonesian scholars on the Fulbright-DIKTI Indonesian Senior Scholar Recharging Program in fall 2012.
