In 2014, WeTech offered a mentoring program to 91 university students in India with partners Goldman Sachs and Qualcomm®. The goal of this program was to address the drop-off of women who study STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) at a university level but then do not stay or progress in technical careers.
The 6-month program involved a one to one match based on customized compatibility factors and career goals. Resources provided to the mentors and mentees included action planning, networking, career planning and interpersonal skills.
Through the mentoring program, mentees have been able to make strong connections with professionals in the corporate world and explore career options with various companies and technical fields. Thanks to those connections, they were able to get encouragement throughout the job search process and obtain guidance on developing career goals which is helping them prepare for a professional life after graduating.
Mentee Geetika Chaudhary, recently accepted a position at STMicroelectronics as a Design Engineer. Congratulations Geetika! Thanks to her mentorship, Geetika was able to improve her resume and work on her interviewing skills which “proved to be utterly helpful […] to get a job in the desired field.“ She also acquired a “great deal of technical knowledge” from her mentor.
Geetika’s recommendation to all mentees is to work hard and to look for a program that provides true guidance. “WeTech provided a platform to acquire that and I am very grateful to them for [this opportunity]. During the programme, you need to show your interest, hard work and persistence to your mentor and you will get all the valuable guidance you need.”
