Enterprise Ireland (EI) is a national agency responsible for the promotion and management of the Education in Ireland brand and the collection of the data on international students. The Higher Education Authority (HEA) is the agency responsible for setting policies relating to higher education and international student data collection. Both EI and HEA represent the main sources of international student data which is collected on an annual basis.
An international student is defined as a student who undertakes part, or all of their higher education experience in Ireland, if Ireland is not their country of domicile. Data collected include: gender; field of study; academic level; type of host institution attended; degree/qualification/credential awarded; tuition income and domicile.
