The total number of students from the top sending countries has remained consistent over the past several years, with China, South Korea and Taiwan sending the most students to Japan. The United States contributed less than two percent to the international student population.
Undergraduate students made up 49.9 percent of the international student total. Of the entire cohort, the most popular academic fields included Social Sciences (40.4 percent), followed by the Humanities (20.2 percent), and Engineering (16.9 percent).
