On April 2, 2008 friends of IIE paid tribute to Trustee Maryam Panahy Ansary in recognition of her leadership and dedication to the Institute for over 20 years.
IIE recognized Maryam’s tremendous leadership in initiating the Institute’s Iran Opportunities Fund, the only program of its kind. The Fund provides tremendous benefits to the Iranian community both in the U.S. and in Iran. First and foremost it provides an opportunity for Iranians and heritage learners in the United States to participate in an important civic activity, i.e. public diplomacy. In addition, through the Persian FLTA Program, IIE is working to increase the awareness of the Persian culture and the recognition of the Iranian community in the U.S. By raising the profile of Iranians in a positive way on campuses and in communities across the country, the program debunks the stereotypic images. Although not directly involved in influencing the fate of Iran, IIE is helping to build a better future by building ties with academic higher education institutions and influencing the next generation of Iranian leaders.
