On March 11, 2010 a group of Chicago Friends of IIE gathered for an intimate dinner at the Chicago Club. Hosted by IIE Board Member and New Leaders Group founder Scott Friedheim and his wife Isabelle, the event brought together donors from the Chicago area, including among others Trustee Jack Greenberg and his wife Donna, New Leaders Group member Jonathan Jackson, Sean and Kara Casten, and new participants including Scot Ruhlander, his wife, Yvonne, and Andrew Davis. Scheduled to coincide with the Chicago Fulbright Enrichment Seminar, the dinner guests were treated to a welcome addition to the event: two Fulbright Alumni Ambassadors and two current Fulbright grantees joined the gathering.
The hosts and venue fostered a congenial atmosphere for the guests somewhat new to IIE to learn about the mission and programs from our Trustees, grantees, and staff. Following dinner, Scott Freidheim engaged the group in a rousing brainstorming session, with a brief musical interlude from Fulbright grantee Lawrence Branco Sekalegga from Ghana.
The evening ended with the formation of the affinity group “Chicago Friends of IIE” and many new ideas to engage the larger Chicago community with IIE. Special thanks to Scott and Isabelle Freidheim for their outreach and efforts to make this dinner a success.
