In partnership with the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA), the Institute of International Education launched the Iran Emergency Student Fund in response to the currency devaluation in Iran. This initiative provided 67 grants of up to $2,000 each to Iranian students at U.S. universities and colleges with urgent financial need due to the financial situation in their home country. The U.S. institutions nominated needy students and, as a condition of receiving the grants, also provided financial assistance such as tuition waivers or in-state tuition on an institutional basis.
In response to the call for nominations, the Institute received over 315 nominations from colleges and universities in 41 states, and made 67 grants.
