Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program

The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP) awards scholarships for post-graduate study to individuals from marginalized and excluded communities in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Russia and Latin America. To date, 4,370 men and women have been selected for IFP fellowships from approximately 80,000 applicants. Fellows have earned master’s or doctoral degrees at 567 universities in 46 countries. The broad range of disciplines studied reflects their concerns in social and environmental justice. More than 80 percent of IFP’s 2,785 alumni are now living and working in their home countries and regions.

International Human Rights Internship Program

With support from the Ford Foundation, SIDA and other donors, IIE’s International Human Rights Internship Program (IHRIP) has strengthened the human rights movement through training and staff exchanges to build organizational capacity. In 2009, with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, IHRIP produced a guide to analysis of government budgets to advance the right to food. IHRIP also sponsored a 10-day course in Buenos Aires for civil society groups on human rights budget work. The program also provided technical assistance to an NGO in Sudan concerned about inadequate government funding to combat maternal mortality.
