In 2012, 650 staff members in a global network of 19 offices and affiliates around the world helped IIE implement over 200 programs, benefitting 29,000 Grantees from 175 countries.

IIE's mission is to advance international education and access to education worldwide. We accomplish this by
- Managing scholarships, training, exchange and leadership programs.
- Conducting research and facilitating
- Rescuing threatened scholars and advancing academic freedom.
IIE is governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees who bring a diverse set of skills from leadership positions in the public and private sectors, including colleges, universities, corporations, and philanthropy. The Institute's executive staff, working closely with the Board, have a wealth of experience in business, government, academia and nonprofit management.
