Highlights: Promoting Education and Academic Exchange

Administering some of the world’s most prestigious scholarship and fellowship programs

The Institute is providing talent from around the world with access to leading institutions of higher education and provides the international experience that is critical to success in the 21st century workplace. These programs are vital in promoting international dialogue and mutual understanding. 

Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship ProgramSince 2002, IIE has managed the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The Gilman Program, the nation’s largest and most diverse undergraduate study abroad scholarship program, awarded nearly 3,000 scholarships in 2012.


FulbrightOn behalf of the U.S. State Department's Fulbright U.S. Student and Scholar Programs, IIE promoted dynamic new opportunities to study, teach and conduct research abroad, including the Fulbright Public Policy Fellowships and the Fulbright NEXUS Program, which addresses challenging regional issues through collaborative research. 


Libya Oil Program Students
Forged a new relationship with Cargill to provide financial support and training to nearly 200 high performing undergraduates from Brazil, China, Russia, India and the U.S. as part of the Cargill Global Scholars Program.


Brazil Scientific Mobility Grantees
In 2012, IIE placed 2,000 undergraduate students at 250 U.S. universities via the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program, a collaboration between IIE and the Government of Brazil.
