Assisting international students and scholars in times of hardship
Through IIE's Scholar Rescue Fund® (SRF) and and IIE's Emergency Student Fund (ESF), the Institute assists international students and scholars facing hardship due to crises such as natural disasters, civil strife or serious illness. IIE also actively supports higher education in transition through professional development and training programs.
At the 2012 Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting, committed to mobilizing $5 million in emergency support for Syrian students and scholars. The Institute is leading a consortium of more than 35 higher education institutions around the world that have committed support for Syrian students and scholars.
Celebrated the tenth anniversary of IIE's Scholar Rescue Fund, which has provided support to nearly 500 scholars from 48 countries who were placed in 250 safe haven institutions worldwide.
IIE and the EducationUSA network, supported by the U.S. Department of State, hosted two "National Conference Calls" with high-level U.S. and Libyan officials on establishing academic linkages between higher education institutions in the United States and Libya.
In cooperation with IIE’s Scholar Rescue Fund (SRF), IIE convened two major higher education conferences in Iraq, designed to engage key stakeholders in encouraging major progress on higher education development efforts in Iraq.
Following on the heels of President Obama’s historic trip to Myanmar, IIE launched an innovative new program to assist in rebuilding higher education capacity in the country. The initiative includes a series of bi-national conference calls about higher education in Myanmar; a U.S. higher education delegation; and a report on the higher education needs in Myanmar.
