The Institute of International Education (IIE) awards the Victor J. Goldberg IIE Prize for Peace in the Middle East annually to recognize outstanding work being conducted jointly by two individuals, one Arab and one Israeli, working together to advance the cause of peace in the Middle East. The two individuals whose work is judged to be most successful in bringing people together and breaking down the barriers of hatred toward "the other" share a $10,000 prize. The winners are selected by a prestigious international selection committee.
- The Prize goes to two individuals. Either or both may be part of an organization, but the two individuals need to have taken an initiative with each other that either caused those organizations to be formed, or significantly moved those organizations in a new direction or to a new level of achievement.
- As the award is a Prize for the individuals, not a Grant to support the organization or project, the money may be used by the winners in any way they choose.
- The project being recognized must be an ongoing activity that is currently underway; it cannot be a proposal for a project to be done in the future.
- Nominations may be submitted by the individuals themselves or by a third party.
2012 Goldberg IIE Prize
The Goldberg IIE Prize recognizes an outstanding Arab-Israeli team working together to advance peace in the Middle East.
The 2012 Prize will be awarded at a ceremony in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, June 26th.
The winners for 2012 are Attorney Hassan Jabareen, the founder and General Director of Adalah – The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, and Attorney Dan Yakir, the Chief Legal Counsel at The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), for their work in promoting equal rights for Arab citizens in Israel. Protecting the rights of Israel's Arab citizens is crucial to preserving peace and stability in Israel. Adalah and ACRI use the Israeli legal system in order to foster a just and tolerant society, in which Jewish and Arab citizens can live as equals.

According to Mr. Goldberg, "The intent of this award is to recognize innovation and reward those who are courageous and committed enough to work together to overcome the religious, cultural, ethnic, and political issues which divide the Middle East.
