IIE's Higher Education Readiness (HER) Program

2010s

In the 2010s, the Institute established the IIE Centers of Excellence to build higher education capacity, develop global academic partnerships, foster entrepreneurship and innovation, empower women through leadership and conduct relevant research and policy analysis.

2001
Convenes first Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Summer Institute, bringing together 50 of the world's outstanding university students from 23 countries. Opens an office in Beijing with a focus on administration of grants competitions and programs. Launches the IIE Andrew Heiskell Awards For Innovation in International Education and honors the winning institutions at the annual IIE Best Practices in Internationalization Conference. 

2007
Launches a series of IIE-led U.S. higher education delegations to countries such as Brazil, China, Indonesia, India, Myanmar, and Russia with the aim of expanding educational ties with the United States.

2010
Partners with NYU to provide undergraduate scholarships to the first entering class of NYU Abu Dhabi, bringing outstanding liberal arts education to the Middle East; and launches the IIE Emergency Student Fund (ESF), which has provided over $1 million in emergency grants to nearly 400 students from Japan, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Thailand and Syria whose home sources of financial support were impacted by crisis or natural disaster.

2011
Establishes the IIE Centers of Excellence to build higher education capacity, develop global academic partnerships, foster entrepreneurship and innovation, empower women through leadership and conduct relevant research and policy analysis. Hosts the first in a series of conferences held by IIE in Iraq and designed to engage key stakeholders in advancing higher education discussions and development efforts in Iraq.

2012
Launches the IIE Higher Education Readiness (HER) Program in Ethiopia to provide young women in secondary school from underserved communities with a pathway to university. Rescues our 500th scholar through the IIE Scholar Rescue Fund (SRF). Launches the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program on behalf of the Government of Brazil to provide scholarships to Brazilian undergraduate students primarily in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields.
