Global Studies Certificate Program
Nomination submitted by: Dr. Chiekwe Anyansi-Archibong, Professor of Strategic Management, Global Studies Certificate Program Coordinator and Mrs. Dana Taylor, Program Assistant
Program Overview Aware that study abroad statistics at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University corresponded to the low numbers at other historically black universities across the country, administrators developed The Global Studies Certificate in 2004 to increase participation in study abroad. To complete the certificate program, participants must take an Introduction to Global Studies course, study abroad, and complete the Global Studies Capstone Seminar upon their return. Administrators designed the program to be interdisciplinary and students can earn the certificate while fulfilling the academic requirements for a degree in any discipline. Since the certificate program’s inception, 65 students have traveled abroad, 32 students have completed the Capstone course and 10 students have received the Global Studies Certificate. Encouraging students to study abroad and increasing global awareness on campus, the program prepares particpants to live and work in a global society.
