Languages Across the Cirriculum
Nomination submitted by: H. Stephen Straight, Professor of Anthropology & of Linguistics; Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education
Program Mission Languages Across the Curriculum promotes use of languages other than English in non-language courses by employing international graduate students as Language Resource Specialists. The cultural and academic knowledge of international students enables LxC to provide unique intercultural perspectives in disciplines ranging from biology to international business to theatre. LxC participation predicts post-graduation use of languages. Since 1991 nearly 3300 undergraduates and 189 international graduate students have done LxC in 163 courses using 16 languages.
