International Business / Logistics & Supply Chain Management
Nomination submitted by: Gigi Do, Senior Executive Director
Program Overview The combined International Business and Logistics and Global Supply Chain Management program at Houston Community College has brought innovative ideas to its students and the Houston community as a result of faculty dedication. "Houston is a world-class city, offering some of the best opportunities for international business, activities and cross-cultural discourse," says HCC Chancellor Mary S. Spangler. In spite of the limits to funding and resources that international programs at community colleges often face, HCC has taken full advantage of its location to offer transformative global opportunities to students.
One example is the Export Fellows program, which began in 2006 and introduced students to basic exporting concepts presented by active practitioners. As a result of the program, enthusiastic students went on to form their own export companies; one exporting used cars to Kazakhstan, and another exporting medical equipment to Tunisia. The program has proven to be a path for students to retool and enter the marketplace with new skill sets in demand in the Houston area.
