'Lead Your Campus to the Top: Best Practices in Internationalizing the Campus'

The Institute of International Education will host the Annual Best Practices in Internationalization Conference at the IIE headquarters in New York City. Leading experts in the field and the winners of the 2013 Andrew Heiskell Awards for Innovation in International Education will present successful strategies for internationalizing the campus. The conference will focus on themes such as internationalization strategies, expanding participation in study abroad, and building international partnerships. There will be optional pre-conference roundtables and a networking dinner held the day before the main conference on Thursday, March 21.

March 21st Optional Pre-Conference Roundtables:

Morning Session:

Strategies for Expanding Exchanges with Latin America

This session will explore strategies for engaging with Latin America, specifically examining innovative international partnerships, study abroad programs and other forms of cooperation.This session will address the various national scholarship programs, including the Brazil Scientific Mobility program, and how U.S. universities can leverage the program to create partnerships with Brazilian counterparts. Participants in this workshop will receive excerpts from the new IIE/AIF Foundation book, Latin America’s New Knowledge Economy: Higher Education, Government and International Collaboration.

Afternoon Session: (choice of one)

Internationalizing the Professions

The 2013 Andrew Heiskell Awards for the first time recognized several higher education institutions for their innovative approach to globalizing the professions. This session will feature representatives from these programs and their strategies and best practices for internationalizing professions such as nursing, dental and air traffic management.

Higher Education and International Development

This roundtable discussion will examine the role of higher education in international development and will review innovative initiatives and strategies that higher education institutions, governments, and other organizations have implemented to support development, including institutional capacity building; leadership training; international research collaboration; curriculum development; and the role of higher education in economic development.
